This year’s King Olav V’s Prize for Cancer Research will go to Professor Bjørn Tore Gjertsen, one of CONNECT’s Steering Committee Members.
Bjørn Tore Gjertsen, part of the CCBIO PIs, patent holder, co-founder of two cancer therapy companies, and the seventh associate from UiB to receive the King Olav V’s Prize for cancer research.

To be eligible for this prestigious prize, a cancer researcher or research group will (among other things) have contributed with research beneficial to cancer patients as well as to the Norwegian cancer research communities as a whole.
In Gjertsen’s opinion, his contributing research with the highest importance is that regarding the connection between intracellular signaling and cell death regulation. Going forward, he would like to sharpen his focus onto the understanding of the early responses in cancer cells after start of therapy.
Bjorn Tore Gjertsen is a member of the CONNECT Steering Committee, and represents Haukeland University Hospital in the CONNECT Consortium. The CONNECT Steering Committee congratulates Bjorn Tore on behalf of the entire CONNECT Consortium for this well deserved prize.
